Well here it is.... "The Dress". My fellow bloggers know the one. The Old Navy Multi Colored Striped Sweater Dress. I saw this baby the first day they put it out in the store, but I figured the horizontal stripes would scare away some folks, and perhaps I could get it on sale--and I was right!

I'm glad I, reluctantly by the way, participated in the colored denim trend last year. Initially, I didn't care to, after all who wants to make an investment in what I thought would be a passing trend; and yes denim for me is an investment due to my lofty inseam 38-40". While I haven't gotten nearly as much wear out of mine as I would've liked, participating in this trend was worth it. My green denim was last seen here.

I recently read a post from Belle @ Capitol Hill Style, that really made me think. Basically Belle wrote a piece about how you see yourself vs. how other people see you. Apparently she told an acquaintance whose dating profile described her as carefree and low maintenance that she was neither; and how the acquaintance got a little 'upset' with her until she got a few more opinions that agreed with Belle. I've done this on more than one occasion myself, once at the encouragement of my mentor, and more recently, while I was writing a speech on the importance of "branding yourself" in ones career.

So now I'm a little curious, have any of you ever asked your friends and coworkers what they think about you? And would you even want to know?

For the record, my co workers seem to think I'm hyper organized and no-nonsense, and my friends seem to think I'm disorganized and a good listener. I wouldn't have used any of those terms to describe myself, so I guess that's the point.

What say you?

Who I Am

I was perusing the web the other day looking for "new" fashion blogs and I came across a blog called Frills and Ruffles that was very nice! On June 29, 2010 Frills and Ruffles did a post called Who am I? If people are defined by their frocks, then who am I? I thought it was great and was inspired by it and I decided to do my own. So, what does this outfit say about me?

1) This outfit says that I am conservative yet fun. I love classic pieces but I'm not stiff at all.

2) I consider my overall style to be conservative, urban and ethnic! I love suits and pumps; but I'm just as quick to wear Jordan's and anything made from Kente cloth!

3) I've worn this outfit plenty of places, I've worn it to work (pushin' it with the skirt length), I've worn it out to lunch with the girls!!

A few weeks ago I went thrift'ing' at my favorite spot and found two great pairs of culottes! I wanted to narrow it down to just one pair, but at two bucks a piece I said what the hay. I got them both. Then I got the new Instyle magazine and what do I see...

Yep, it's gotta be a sign, right! (?)

I still can't believe it, I haven't had a pair since '79!!!!

I fell in love with the print. It looks even more awesome in person.

I got this dress because I'd planned to shortened it, but like so many things on my fashion 'to-do' list, I fashion 'to-didn't'. I decided to wear it as a skirt instead, because in dress form lets just say it wasnt' so maxi.

-Well, I think I'm a part of several "categories". My blog represents several blogging genre's i.e. fashion, personal style, tall women, moms etc.

2. What keeps you from or encourages you to label yourself as a certain kind of blogger?

Way too hot for this jacket!!

-The fact that I want to connect to a variety of types of people/blogs I don't want to put people off. Like I'm tall, but I don't wear things that only other tall people can relate to, you know.

3. When picking blogs to read and follow are you drawn to ones that
indicate a certain group or way of thinking/being?

-Anytime I can relate to something/someone I follow. Nice pictures, good content and/or well written articles are great.

4. Do you think there are benefits in labeling yourself or others?

-Sometimes, if you are creating labels to connect with people and not divide, then it can be a good thing.

5. Agree or Disagree - We're all just people; we don't need all the labels.

-Agreed. No one "needs" to be put in a box! It's not a necessity it's just something we do.

Today's FBFF questions were inspired by a post from Vahni from Grit and Glamour several weeks ago in which she outlined her personal uniform or outfit formula as she dubbed it.

1. What’s your go-to outfit formula?
Well during the work week a dress, because it's easy and cute paired with a jacket or cardigan and heels! On the weekend I wear skirts a lot, but I don't have to be on point with hemlines, so I keeps it short! Jeans and a cute top have never failed anyone.

2. How did you come about this formula?
I didn't, it found me! It's a lot easier for a girl 6'3" to find a skirt suit than it is for me to find pants, although that's changing.

3. Do you have different formulas for different occasions in your life?

Not really, I'm all about the easy...and for me skirts= easy!

4. Has it morphed over the years?
Yes, when I was younger there was no formula, lol. As a teen, I had a uniform----- GRUNGE and in my early twenties it was logoed everything.

5. Which other blogger’s outfit formula would you like to swipe?

Anh from 9 to 5 Chic, she consistently looks awesome and Jeimy from Jeimy's Fashion Love Affair that's another one, SMH she does a great job!

things you gravitate towards while shopping?
Absolutely, I do a lot more vintage shopping looking for those one of a kind pieces. I used to do it for fun...now I do it for sport!!!

2. Do you find, as a fashion blogger, that you dress differently from
your family and friends? Yes, but I've always had my own point of view so to speak. My family is full of fashionista and nistos! Do they comment on that? Yes, for better or worse, lol.

3. What’s the weirdest fashion that you secretly like, even if you
aren’t bold enough to wear it? In my head I'd totally wear gold fronts *don't tell anybody*

4. Looking at current trends – what would you like to try but need to
build up the courage to do?
A body con dress--i.e.Herve Ledger. Maybe one day, after a fast and two pair of Spanx!

How often does this happen?

Okay, I was perusing one of my favorite blogs MzFashionCloset and and came across a picture of a dress that looked awfully familiar. Then it hit me, it was a vintage dress that I'd purchased from my local thrift store earlier this year!!! Maybe it's just me but I usually don't run across thrift items on other people.

This dress looks so cute on Dhalia, the entire look from the shades to the shoes is just right!

By the way, I'm guessing Dhalia is petite, 'cause this dress is a mini on me, I'm a big girl.

I love Saturday's, they're amazing! I'm trying to teach my daughter how to drive and that's enough to turn my black hair gray!

We did some shopping, and speaking of shopping while I was at Off Saks I found the cutest black strapless maxi dress. Now normally I don't even look at maxi's because they are never maxi on me, but this one was actually long enough. Even in my wedges this dress pooled on the floor. I was sold--until I looked at the price tag $90.00, which is a bit much to pay for a basic maxi dress. So I stopped by the fabric store on the way home--we'll see how that goes! :-)

You know how people say that the eyes are windows to the soul? Well, I definitely think that's the case and that's why I'm hiding mine. I wasn't sure that I wanted to write about this at all, but I decided to anyway.

I've suffered from depression for a while (untreated of course) and it's really taking a toll on me right now. Hopefully, this will soon pass and I can get back to being, and feeling --not to mention dressing like myself. :-)

I recently quit my second job, I didn't really need it per se, I just wanted to try out a new field (sales) and well, I'm just not up to it. I feel a little better this week, and I'm working my way toward the light. The darkness is no place to be. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Epic Fail and...Polka Dots

Okay so my 30 for 30 purge was an epic fail. I think I made it through day 3. :-( I don't know how long it will take me to get through it, but I will finish darn it! Anyways, super excited to participate in the Everybody,Everywear: Polka Dots. I wanted to participate in the previous two, but I always forgot. Not this time thanks to my outlook calender!

I have a few meetings today, so I'm rocking corporate dots!

I'm not donating anything today. *shakes lowered head* I had my eye on this dress for almost a year before being able to get one myself. I got it on Black Friday and today's blazing 74 degree temp was just the opportunity I needed to put it on. Yep, I'm country, I already know. While I was stalking this dress I happened to have seen it on one of my favorite bloggers Anh from 9to5 Chic. It can be seen here, and she looked awesome in it also!

Still Giving....Barely!

It's been a while since I posted anything, but I'm still giving! First, I got engaged last week (lol, long story) and then I started a new sales position, although it's only part time. I'm not comfortable (RE:confident) enough to give up my corporate gig just yet! Not to mention regular 'ol family stuff, I'm full of excuses these days.

Anyways, I started out ready to give up this long sleeved t-shirt, but I think these shoes may have to go too.

Day Three...this is another buy one get one-gotta let it go piece from NY&Co

As you can tell, these pants were the result of a buy one/get one half off sale at NY&Co. Just like many other things in my closet I buy one in my actual size and one in my just in case size. Since I'm in between sizes, neither pair really fit all that well (i.e. saggy crotch).

I had to alter these pants, by taking out the cuffs and the hem..I wonder how long it will be before I get around to altering the other pair..whomp-whomp #procrastinationismylife.

Okay, so it's day two and I'm already rethinking this 30 days of giving. :-) Just kidding, but I had a time deciding what to wear/give this morning.

Today's item is this skirt.

It's a nice skirt, a wardrobe staple--which should explain why I have two. NY&Co was having one of those buy one get one half off deals. So I took that opportunity to get two--in different sizes of course! I totally don't need two...soooo one needs to go. I guess this means I'll be keeping the bigger size just in case!

I'm remixing the remix!

I signed up to do the 30 for 30 with Kendi Everyday, BUT I never got around to picking out my pieces. :-( Mainly, because I have so much stuff. In light of this I've decided that for the next 30 days I'm going to wear 30 pieces for the last time. Everyday one piece from my outfit will go to Goodwill or be donated to my church. Today, I'm bidding adieu to--

These pants.

They needed to go anyway, lol. I love 'em, not because they're particularly fashionable or fit well (they make my behind look like a pancake). I love them because they are a size 8. That's stupid, I know, but I can't help it! In 2009 I decided to become a vegetarian and as a result I lost a lot of weight. I needed a pair of pants, in a pinch and these fit, mind you I'm a 38 inseam. I've worn them ever since--and now I'm letting them go.

Crazy for Camel...

I was inspired to go look for a camel blazer after seeing Lexy @ Beautyfash. She made it look so cute. She worked two of my favorite things camel and leopard! I purchased this camel blazer at my local thrift store for $1.99, and I love it!

I couldn't wait to get it back from the cleaners it still needs some alterations-sleeves and new buttons; but I wore it anyway, you know how I do. :-)

I went to a wedding this weekend, my first one in years. The bride was my cousin Sheena, she's 22 (I think) and her husband Mario is 19!! They looked like two kids, very cute! It was a very nice ceremony, the reception was a lot of fun. I danced until my feet hurt, then I had to stop because I don't do the barefoot in public thing and I didn't want to leave my shoes unattended.

This is my first post of the new year and it's a casual Friday!

I wore my burgundy shoes that I got on black Friday for $25.00 at Nine West (love 'em). Tall girls--I finally got my hands on a pair of Big Star Jeans (Maddie) and I have to say that I'm not really feelin' em. For those not in the know these Big Star Jeans are supposed to be the thing for tall girls. They have an extended inseam and the girls were all over them. They're okay, and that's it. A little low, in the rise for my taste, they make my legs look short!

I'll be glad when I can start taking pictures outside again.

I'm super excited about 2011, I feel like I have some amazing things in store for me this year and I can't wait!

This morning I woke up to a sheet of ice covered with a sprinkle of snow! I drove like 10 mph all the way to work. This cold front is killin' me. I live in the south for a reason, this is unnatural!
Anyways...
I haven't worn these boots in a minute, I love them they're very comfortable but they make my feet look huge! I went to Target last night to pick up a gift card for my 'Secret Santa' recipient and got this entire outfit. Yep, shirt-sweater and skirt! I think I was the only person at work with a skirt on today. Yes ma'am rain, sleet, hail, snow!

Hiya ladies--

I don't know if I've ever mentioned this, but I am currently working toward my competent communicator certificate in Toastmasters. This was my second speech entitled How to Fake It. Don't let the title distract you, this speech was about how to fake confidence, when you are running low!!

It went well overall, but for some reason I was REALLY nervous. I wasn't even this nervous during my first speech!

I decided against the black dress and went with separates instead.

Happy beginning of the holiday season to everyone! Just as the title suggests I was lazy and did not go out shopping on Black Friday!! The direct result of way too much food. *shakes fist in the air* So I decided to shop from the comfort of my couch in my PJ's. Here's the rundown:

Now we know I love me some me some leopard print, but I've never owned burgundy shoes before. The possibilities...

I also purchased these boots. They're supposed to be over the knee, but I have a feeling they'll only be knee high on me. That's fine though.

Last but not least, I was able to get something I've had my eye on for almost a year...

It's the Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Bow Chain' ruffle detail blue streak dress. I've wanted this dress since forever...or at least June 2010! It finally went on sale, yay, and I got it. Hope it fits.

Okay so my department is closing down two hours early today!!! This gives me a two hour head start to the weekend and the grocery store!! Very exciting, I know. Last week I went to scout out the the new Tanger Outlet * they open at midnight on Black Friday * and I got this AWESOME sweater at Off Saks.

So apparently it was a New York kind of day, I just realized all of the pieces in today's outfit, with the exception of my shoes, came from NY&Co. What can I say, it's a great place to get basics! I had to make some alterations to the pants, with the help of my handy seam ripper I was able to take the Hudson pant from this

What's different you say? I removed the cuffs. These pants come in a 35" inseam which is a little short for me, at 6'3". So without the cuffs I have an extra 6 inches!! They don't always pool on the floor like this, it just so happens that I'm not wearing my 'big girl' shoes:

Apparently, that's not true! One "lucky" bidder has paid $42,500 to spend a week interning for Anna Wintour at Vogue in a CharityBuzz auction benefiting the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

I value the experience one can get as an intern, however paying $42,500 to get coffee for anybody is ummm different..... Let's hope someone was donating for the sake of donating!

Lol, seriously anyone who knows me will tell you that I love Hermes, and I want a Birkin bag soooo bad. They also know that I am extremely tight with money because i want to retire/start my own business soon and unless my lottery number (if i played lotto)hits, I would/could never afford such a thing. So I got the next best thing, in my opinion...

...isn't she cute. This little (not really) Michael Kors number is called Hamilton and she fits me like a dream! Not quite as heavy as you assume, but heavy enough and at $298.00 (Christmas gift) I won't have buyers remorse. Whadya think?

Yay, I got some new jeans today and I'm so excited! I love jeans but I have a hard time finding any because I'm 6'3" (that's a 38"inseam), EXACTLY! I love being tall, but sometimes.....So needless to say that I don't own a ton of jeans. This particular pair I got from bluefly.com and they are D&G. They are an Italian size 44 (I'm praying that's a 8/10, because I'm not sure about the conversion)They were on sale (free shipping) for a meesley *picture my sarcastic eye roll* $138.00. They have a 36" inseam, but they have extra fabric, about four extra inches in the hem. So once I let that out 40" so I can wear them with heels! Woo-hoo! I'll post pics (of me in them) when I get home. We'll Talk!

Every year magazine’s come out with their version of “The Size Issue” with some “curvy” (and I’m being VERY liberal with the term curvy) celebrity like Beyonce or Penelope Cruz gracing the cover. While I always enjoy this topic, I personally look forward to the tall person (as I am one), so I am very excited about V magazine’s first installment of the New Year dubbed “The Size Issue.”

This issue feature’s two models, super (plus-sized) model Crystal Renn,23, and traditionally slim Jacquelyn Jablonski,17, to show the world that fashion, when done correctly, can be flattering on everyone.

This feature was shot by noted fashion photographer (why do I sound like Tyra in my head) Terry Richardson. The models were clad in Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, Versace and Dolce & Gabanna.
